The walls are created by setting ICFs ( Insulated Concrete Forms ) on the footers stacking them up like Legos. When the walls reach a designated height they are pumped with concrete. This building system creates an exterior wall equivalent to an R50 stick built home and reduces heating and cooling cost by 60%. They also can withstand winds of 190 miles per hour. Our thanks go out to our base crew volunteers and Watauga Concrete Finishers and Virginia Carolina Concrete for a perfect job. This Saturday we will continue with the walls and will level out the lower pad.

If you can make it, please come and join us. We work from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. No tools are needed and lunch is provided. You must be 17 to work in construction at the site. The home is located in Jefferson off Highway 88. From Jefferson take West Main (Highway 88) to McFarland Publishing. Turn right on Hickory Hill Road and a left on West Hickory Hill. The site is over the top of the hill.
